Frequently Asked Questions
Is your farm a co-op?
This question has come up rather frequently due to the name of the farm: Stone Coop Farm. The farm's namesake is actually a large, stone chicken coop (hence, Stone Coop, not co-op) from the 1880s on the property of Hamburg Fitness Center, where we started the farm in 2011. The coop has served many purposes aside from housing chickens over the years, including camp dormitories and bathrooms. To answer the question directly, we are a CSA, not a co-op. See several questions below for more information on CSAs.

What does CSA stand for?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. CSA members pay for a season of produce before the season begins. In return members get a share of fresh and healthy vegetables. When you purchase a Stone Coop Farm membership, you are allowing us to purchase seeds, equipment, and supplies when we need it the most, before the harvest. This membership lets you get to know your farmers, see your food grow and ripen, be in tune with the weather and impact on the crops, and maybe even get your hands dirty helping us on the farm. This direct access to your food is impossible to obtain from the store.

How does the U-Pick Garden work?
All of our members will be able to pick fresh produce and herbs in our U-Pick garden. We will have the U-Pick Garden clearly marked and would love to help you with the best methods to pick items out of this garden. It will be a small garden, so there will be limited quantities. We will be periodically harvesting from these gardens to ensure none of the produce gets too ripe, but we would prefer you take the opportunity to enjoy harvesting and tasting the produce straight from the plant.
Do berries and flowers come with my share?
We will have some berries and flowers available for an additional fee during distribution and market days.
Will eggs be available?
Eggs are available for purchase during online sales and at farmers market.
Will turkeys be available?
Yes, we will be offering a few heritage breed turkeys for Thanksgiving. We have a local farm in Howell that will be raising them for us. We will be sharing more information about how you can reserve your turkey soon.
